I have an Italian made Barista imported by Starbucks. I bought it 17 years ago for half price from a newly wed couple as a gift, which they did not need as they preferred the drip coffee brewer they had been accustomed to. It worked wonderful and I had to replace couple of O-rings on the leaky steamer wand and the group head assembly. The part was purchased on Ebay for $20.
Fast forward to today, the Barista pump is no longer putting out good crema and it sounds terrible. It would cost $30 to purchase a new pump and a long time to replace it. I was looking on Markabufor a replacement and found this ICUIRE model CM5100 on special discount for $59 shipped to my doors. So, I decided to purchase versus replacing the pump on the good ole Starbucks Barista.
In the beginning it was a little frustrating to operate this ICUIRE due to the O-ring on the group head assembly being new and tight. It took hercules effort to put the funnel into the group head and to take it out later due to the super tight new O-ring. I had to hold the body of the espresso machine butted up on my upper body to hold it in place while my other hand twist the funnel into place or take it off after the brew. This action was/is super easy with the Starbucks Barista. I was very close to box up the ICUIRE to return it to Markabufor refund. I am glad I decided to try it a few more times to break it in. It is not so hard to put in and take out after cup number 20.
Once I passed that O-ring hurdle I found this espresso machine is better than the Barista. It took only three minutes to heat up the boiler to proper temperature to prime the funnel and group head.....and voila....it is ready to brew. Unlike the Barista where I have to watch for the length of time to stop the brew, this ICUIRE has a timer, which user can set to his/her desired time duration. Once I brew the first cup I can brew multiple cups with wait time of about one minute in between brews. The steam wand works wonderful.
The only concern I have with this ICUIRE is replacement O-ring availability. I have looked hi and lo on eBay and could not find any O-rings/parts for this particular CM5100. I hope Markabucan shed a light on this issue.
